X-Rays

I received an interesting email yesterday from my orthopedist. It was an email with my x-rays showing the break(s) in my leg.

From what I saw it looks like there are actually two breaks. So if you are interested, here they are:…

Why I quit reading books

Whether or not they will admit it to you, many contractors have more free time now than ever before. Obviously it's because we (past tense for me) aren't as busy.

During the final year of my subcontracting business I had quite a bit of free time. I was starting Blue Collar Coaching at the time but it was slow going as I was trying to find…

Bicycle Commute

For three days this week I will commute to work on my bicycle. I did not realize the extent of the planning required to make this happen until this past weekend.

Due to personal schedule conflicts I prefer to drive my car on Wednesday afternoon and all day Friday. I came up with a plan to drive to work on Monday morning, ride my bike home Monday, round-trip on the bike Tuesday, and ride to work Wednesday. Since we host a Life Group at our home on Wednesday evenings I will…

Good neighbor, bad neighbor

Here is a quick story about two neighbors that I have. The first one; This is someone that only has his self interest in mind. This is a person that drove me crazy to move my bike from the common area of our building so that his wife could have a secure spot for their $1,200 baby stroller (No that isn't a misprint. There are $1,200 baby strollers and people buy them. Why? I have no clue). Tuesday afternoon when I returned from breaking my leg (this is pre ER visit) once the kid got…

AppleTalk Thursday #20

iOS 5 to Support Over the Air Updates

There is a lot of speculation that Apple is negotiating with Verizon to offer over the air updates for iOS devices starting with version 5 of the iOS. This would be great as it would be one less…

My big Break

It looks like my biking season is pretty much over. Yesterday while riding I wiped out on my bike while making a left turn. It seems that my front tire lost all of the air that was in it and gave out while I was making the turn and that resulted in my crashing in the middle of Foster Avenue (literally - I was on the double yellow lines). At first I thought it was just a bad sprain but the pain continued and was worse than I've ever felt before. Since I had to be home to take care of the kid…

First half-day commute

I am on a journey to lose weight and to save money/ pay down debt as my wife and I await the arrival of our first child. We are mostly following the Dave Ramsey Baby Steps to get debt free and I am on LoseIt! and MyFitnessPal to track my excercise and calories for weight loss.

Last month I was inspired to ride 260…

Let's Race!

A lot of people will try to tell you that you should get away from trading time for money. Frankly, I find this kind of talk annoying.

No matter who you are, you do trade time for money. Some just trade at different rates than others. The goal is to trade at the best rate you can.

I hope this post can help you understand something about your pricing that will… Continue

Perseverance! Just keep swimming!

Walter Knight, Knight's Master Book of New Illustrations.

Two frogs fell into a deep cream bowl,

One was an optimistic soul;

But the other took the gloomy view,

"We shall drown," he cried with more ado.

So with a last despairing cry,

He flung up his legs and said, "Good-bye."

Quoth the other frog with a merry grim,

"I can't get out, but I won't give in.

I'll just swim round till my strength is spent,

Then will I die the more… Continue

Do We Take Advantage of the Beauty That's Right in Front of Us?

Looking out my bedroom window today, I saw a picture of somewhere near perfect. I saw the new blooming plant life and the green grass, but I also saw litter and debree of things people didn't bother to put in the trash. It made me think, do we take advantage of the beauty that is right in front of us? It made me think of previous actions of being a small part in turning some parts of the world to look near to a dumpster. Things like dropping a wrapper, yet it didn't really matter to me so I…
