This was sent to us as a gift from Dan Miller with the recipe attached.  It was his mothers and has quickly become a family favorite in our home.

4 cups quick cooking oats
1 cup wheat germ or oat bran
1 cup coconut
1 cup nuts (any kind - we use peanuts)
1 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup sesame seeds (optional - we do not add)
3/4 cup brown sugar

Mix all these ingredients and in a separate small bowl combine:

3/4 cup vegetable or canola oil
1/3 cup water
2 Tablespoons vanilla

Mix well and add to the dry mixture, stirring well.  Bake in open roasting pan or large cookie sheet for 30 min on 250 degrees.  Pull from oven and stir well in pan, then put into oven again for another 30 minutes.  Repeat stirring and add:

2 cups of any combination of raisins, dried cranberries, dried blueberries.

Put in oven and bake another 30 min.  Remove and cool before putting in a container for storage or gift-giving.  Good with milk or cream, hot or cold!

In the process of making this right now...on the first 30 mins in the oven.

It smells pretty delicious. I did some shopping around and found some great sales on the ingredients so I was able to put this together pretty cheaply. It nice to find relatively healthy snack that I was able to put together rather cheaply.

Thanks Stephanie, Dan and Clara for sharing the recipe!

I am making this right now also.  I made 4 batches this time, that should last us a while.

Enjoy it's delicious.

I have to agree it is very delicious and filling too!

I really like coconut so I have been supplementing the cooked mixture with some fresh coconut. Call me weird but I also threw in some shredded mozzarella cheese and it tasted pretty good!  I think its the sweet and salty mixture that I liked.

Again thanks for sharing!

Has anyone figured out the calorie count on this? If you have can you please post it. I think that I have heard Cliff mention it on one of the podcasts.

It would depend on what ingredients you are using.  The first time I made it using peanuts, craisins and raisins it measured to be 315 for 1/2 cup.  Now I make it with almonds, blueberry and cherry flavored craisins and it measures to 310 for half a cup.

Hope this helps.

Steph

This granola is so good! I made it with hazelnuts 2 weeks ago. I have eaten it for breakfast every day with some yoghurt and a banana and it's all gone already. I'm making another batch today :-)

Thank you so much for this recipe - love it!  Shared some with my sister and her 3 young boys, and they loved it too.
