I have been a Blackberry user for two years and although it has been great (most of the time) I'm ready to upgrade. I debated between the iPhone and the Android for a while but am happy with my decision to go with the iPhone. I hope to be able to afford a MacBook within a year (if I can live with this PC that long!) so that will be great to have two devices that are Apple aside from my iPod.
I had every intention to switch at the end of the month when my tax refund comes in but a few people have suggested that it would be smarter to wait until the new model comes out in June. As difficult as it is, I can wait a few more months. I'm very happy that Verizon now has the iPhone and heard that the only difference is that you can't search during a phone call. Well since I can't do that now, it's no problem. ;)
Anyway, all of that (long!) explanation was just ask a simple question: what are your "must-have" apps? I asked that same question on Twitter and FB and now have a list of 55 to check out! I thought it would be a good question to ask here. Thanks! :)

Some kind of Twitter app (that used to be SimplyTweet for me, but not anymore, I'm trying to find a new favourite).
Facebook
Words With Friends
GetGlue
Sleep Cycle
Gowalla
Plurk
Pkt Weather (it's a weather app that shows the current app through a push notification number)
I have more on my phone but these are the ones that are on my first page (along with some apps that come with the iPhone).
Permalink Reply by Shannon Kay on February 17, 2011 at 12:59pm Of course I'd like to recommend our games, Sheepstacker and Word Monkey. Of course they were made by my husband and I, so I have a bias :)
Let's see, on my first page I keep Facebook, Twitter(official app), and GetGlue
Some other apps I use...
Social Apps
Meebo - IM client for iPhone. Chat with AIM, google talk, etc.
Skype
foursquare - though I haven't checked into it much lately
Gowalla - I mean to check in to this because it will feed to foursquare and facebook places, but I haven't yet
Books/Reading
iBooks - be sure to download it free from the app store. Besides buying books from the iBook store and syncing ePub books with iTunes, you can use it for PDFs.
Kindle App - must have if you have any Kindle books or want to try them.
ESV Bible - the nicest Bible app I've seen. It keeps the whole text locally and you can make notes, tweet verses, etc.
Audible - if you're an Audible user, this is a really nice app
Media
Air Video - This is a really amazing app. I use it more on my iPad, but it's good on iPhone too. It can stream videos from your computer in pretty much any format.
Netflix - watch Netflix streaming if you're a Netflix subscriber
Remote - control your computer's iTunes from your iPhone
What's On - a tv guide app
Pandora - listen to streaming music. I usually only listen to it when I want to find something new.
Shazam - find out what that song is that's playing
Other Apps
Kitchen Pro - I just got this one, it's a kitchen calculator so it converts tablespoons to cups, that sort of thing.
Momento - compiles all your twitter posts, blog feed, pretty much any social feeds you have into a sort of journal that it saves.
Right now I'm testing out productivity apps. I'm trying Awesome Note and Evernote.
Really only relevant if you're having a baby, but I use BabyBump to track my pregnancy and recently got Baby Connect for when the baby is born to track feedings and everything. They apparently expected me to write it down on paper at the hospital. Paper, ha!
Permalink Reply by Denise Medve on February 19, 2011 at 9:11am I just got my iPhone, so I'm still sifting and looking. This is a timely post for me!
So far, my favorites are (all free)
Ebay
The Weather Channel
RunKeeper (even though I think the GPS/Calories burned is not all that accurate, I still find it motivating, and fun to cross-post to Facebook)
Battery Magic
Photoshop Express
Zappos :)
Netflix
Epicurious (my favorite recipe site. App is free to browse, if you have an account with the site, it's $1.99 to link it)
Shop Rite (for weekly specials)
CNN
Flashlight (This came in hand the other night when I was walking the dog in the cold!)
FreeAppADay
wunderlist (I love making and keeping lists of stuff I need to do)
Geocaching (a new one I've just started exploring)
Icon Skins (for customizing your phone graphics)
USB Disk (allows you to move files for your computer and view them)
And for games:
Flick Fish
Angry Birds
Sky Burger (current favorite)
Textropolis
Flick Fish
